Electric mini bikes make great holiday gifts for kids ages 12 years and older.  These electric powered scooters have many features just like the larger electric bikes, yet they are scaled down for kids.

What could be better than finding a new electric powered bicycle under the tree on Christmas morning?  Or how about an electric bike for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whichever holiday you celebrate?  The one you buy for will love it, and your thoughtfulness will benefit the environment and their waistline!

An electric powered bicycle charges through a common household electric outlet, so it will be unbelievably inexpensive to operate for years to come.  Electric bikes are clean, quiet, energy efficient, sporty and cool!  And they can be pedaled if you want, so they are healthy to ride, too.

For all of us who live in the Northwest, we are gifted with a bountiful amount of awesome mountain bike trails and locations.  Here are a few of my personal favorites, all within the Northwest region. 

~Carbon Glacier; this trail ends at a real glacier, and is complete with a suspension bridge (I don’t advise taking your mountain bike over the suspension bridge, but still quite a fun trail up to it). 

~Jetty Island; this is a great location with a variety of beach trails, not too flat, not too steep in most places, plus it’s right on the water!   

~Gold Ridge; this is located on the other side of the Cascades, and features some cool mountain bike trails, though I would recommend an electric bike for this as it can be quite steep in some places.

For all those thrill seekers out there, kids and adults, here are a few holiday gifts sure to get the adrenaline pumping and widen smiles.

In 2002, President Gorge W. Bush signed HR727 in to law.  This federal statute is commonly referred to as the Federal Electric Bicycle Law, and sets forth national regulations for the use of electric powered bikes.  This law says that an electric powered bike is considered a “bicycle” and the laws governing the use of bicycles apply if the electric powered bike has less than a 750 watt motor, functional pedals and a maximum speed of 20 mph.

According to this legislation, the federal law supersedes any state law or requirement with respect to low-speed electric bicycles.  In other words, the state must regulate these electric powered bikes as bicycles.  This does tell the states how they must regulate bicycles , in general, so it is very important for you to check with your state and local agencies to see how these electric bikes are regulated in your state.   Many experts recommend that electric bike drivers carry a copy of this law with hm when they ride.
