The electric pocket bike, or “mini bike” developed as a pit bike the in 1950s. Drag racers used them to quickly zoom around the pits during races. Because of their small size, they could maneuver down the tight pit roads and squeeze into small spaces. The earliest commercial version of the bike developed in Japan in the 1970s and ‘80s, and interest in the miniature motorcycles has been growing ever since.

Despite their tiny size, someone as tall as six feet can ride the bike around. They came to the United States from Italy just a few years ago, and have gained a following Because of their small size, they’re generally illegal on United States roads, and are popular for riding around at home, or on tracks for kart racing.
